Hebrews 10:25. Not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.
Our Fighter Verse this week tells us to not neglect “meeting together.” The word “meet together” found in this verse is only found in two places in the New Testament. Obviously here but also in 2 Thessalonians 2:1.
Now concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our being gathered together to him, we ask you, brothers…
Here the word is translated “gathered together.” In view is the coming of our Lord Jesus. We will be gathered together to the Lord. Notice back in Hebrews 10:25 how the author connects our meeting together for church to the coming Day of the Lord that is drawing near.
So what does all this mean? It means that one of the things that should motivate us to not miss church is that it is a reminder and a preview of the truth that one day Christ will gather us together to be with him forever. We gather today because we will be gathered one day.
If that thought means anything to you, if it brings any kind of joy and expectation to your heart, would you consider devoting yourself to the local church? Christ loved the church so much he died for it. She was taken from his side to be his bride. He is preparing a place for her. And one day he will return and take her to glory. Do you love her as Christ does?
I pray that you do. And I pray that we will not neglect the weekly gathering that prepares our hearts for the final gathering.
