Supporting Military Families

Being a military family can come with its own unique challenges - getting used to a new area, building new friendships, finding a local church you can invest in. At Grace we want to offer each military family the option to have their own sponsor/sponsor family.

How would a sponsor/sponsor family help?
Your sponsor would come alongside you for support, connection, and prayer. They'd check in with you and help you get acclimated to the area and answer questions about the church and community. Your sponsor would offer regular connection outside of the church and could be matched to you based on location, interests, or background. If you have any needs where the church could provide assistance, your sponsor could help you reach out to the church leadership.

Does a military family have to have a sponsor?
No. This ministry is completely voluntary.

How long would the sponsorship last?
For at least the first year of transition.

Sponsored military families should NOT expect:

  • Direct financial support from their sponsor family.
  • Excessive amounts of time spent on things like household projects or childcare.

Becoming a Sponsor

Sponsors of military families should expect to:

  • Connect with your military family for one year.
  • Check in regularly with your military family.
  • Help your military family to get assimilated to the local community and the church.
  • Provide spiritual and prayer support for your military family.
  • Communicate any significant needs of your military family to the church elders (with the family’s permission).
  • Hopefully form a friendship with your military family that leads to encouragement and helps prevent loneliness in this important time of transition.
